Chefs Support Ukraine raises funds for refugees

The Craft Guild of Chefs and UK Curry Connect have joined forces to launch the 'Chefs Support Ukraine' scheme, raising vital funds for the UN Refugee Agency.

Members of both organisations and business owners were asked to help raise cash through special events and menus, raffles, donations from profits or gratuities and more. The money raised will be given to the Agency, which offers life-saving protection to families forced to flee their homes as a result of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Donated funds can make a dramatic difference, with £9.57, for example, helping to provide a plastic tarpaulin to a family, £48 helping to provide 10 warm fleece blankets, and £73.60 helping to provide a child with psychological support.

The Craft Guild of Chefs raised funds during its annual awards evening, with the Department of Hospitality Studies at Brockenhurst College raising £500 in donations.

UK Curry Connect held an event at Maya Bar & Restaurant in Atherstone in aid of the appeal, with further donations received from family restaurant, Millennium Balti in Leamington Spa, as well as Sponsor Licence Specialists.

In total, the appeal has raised £6,242 for the UNHCR Aid Agency – an organisation that leads the response to refugee protection across the world, backed by financial donations.

Andrew Green, CEO of The Craft Guild of Chefs, comments: "The refugee crisis has not abated and aid agencies like the UNHCR still need our support providing humanitarian aid to children and families displaced because of the war. I have been incredibly pleased with the solidarity shown across the hospitality industry in support of Ukraine."
