Square helps Tender Cow boost business and staff morale

Tender Cow, originally a London street food stall, has grown into a multi-million-pound enterprise with three Manchester locations and more than 50 employees. Owner Matt Walsh's mission to make steak more accessible and his integration of Square’s comprehensive suite of tools has driven this expansion.

Matt discovered Square at a coffee shop, impressed by its point-of-sale (POS) system. "I realized it was exactly what we needed. As a quick-service restaurant, we’re all counter service, and my kitchen staff wasn’t getting any tips. The Square POS system made it really easy to leave a tip and join the loyalty program without anything extra, like a card or an app," Matt shared.

Since switching to Square, Matt has integrated several of its products, including Square Marketing, Square Loans, and Square Restaurants POS. These tools provide valuable data and insights, enhancing business operations and boosting staff morale. The Square Restaurant POS tipping function alone increases kitchen staff wages by up to £200 per month.

Square's loyalty program has been particularly effective, with members spending 84% more per visit compared to non-members. Matt plans to further leverage Square Marketing to increase loyalty program enrollment and customer engagement.

Square Loans have even helped to diversify the business, allowing Matt to invest in a new boutique hotel.

“My number one job is to constantly move the business forward and show my team that there are always going to be opportunities for growth and career development. Square helps me achieve that,” says Matt.
