The Brasserie opens at Sopwell House

The Brasserie at Sopwell House, a countryside hotel in St Albans, has reopened its doors following a full refurbishment, complete with a brand-new menu.

Following a transformative redesign, the interiors are bright and airy, flooded with natural light and showcasing warm tones of blue and amber, bold prints and patterned tiling. Modern pendant lighting has also been added, while layered textured fabrics, bespoke furniture and art deco touches complete the look.

Dining at The Brasserie

Executive chef Gopi Chandran and brasserie head chef Marilena Ungureanu have designed a new food offering, focusing on British comfort classics with elevated twists.

Signature starters include chicken liver parfait with apple and blackberry chutney and toasted brioche, baked scallops served in the shell with a bacon crumble and garlic parsley butter, and goat's cheese croquettes with roasted red pepper sauce.

Mains include Cornish cod with crushed sweet garden peas, shaved fennel and dill, braised lamb shoulder pie in a red wine jus and slow-cooked beef cheeks with mashed potato and red wine sauce.

Options from the grill include 28-day dry-aged Hereford prime steaks – from fillet to sirloin on the bone – accompanied by fries and a choice of sauce. The 900g sharing rib of beef is a real showstopper, cooked on the Mibrasa charcoal grill to lock in maximum flavour.

Sundays are all about the roast with a selection of premium cuts available, from the 28-day aged Angus striploin of beef to a Gloucester Old Spot pork belly. Every plate is served with roasties, seasonal mixed vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and a generous helping of gravy.

Desserts feature classics such as Bakewell tart and blueberry cheesecake, along with an artisanal British cheese board of four regional cheeses with a quince paste. A decadent chocolate delice will also be offered, served with a Stracciatella ice cream.

The drinks list has been curated to complement the menu, offering a range of beer, lager and wine from around the globe.

To celebrate the restaurant launch, diners can enjoy an exclusive offer of three courses and a glass of wine for £29 until 2 May.
