Pick & Cheese coming to Camden Market

A cheese conveyor belt restaurant concept is set to land in Camden Market on 25 July. 

Building on the success of the original Covent Garden site, cheese connoisseur Matthew Carver will now launch the second branch of Pick & Cheese in North London. 

Taking on the site of The Cheese Bar restaurant in Camden Stables Market, Pick & Cheese will celebrate the best of British cheesemaking, working with small-scale, artisan cheesemakers and producers.

Six years after its debut, Carver is firing up a second conveyor belt to deliver cheese directly to guests' seats. The 18m-long conveyor belt will wind its way around the restaurant, allowing diners to stack their plates with a regularly changing line-up of cheeses with unique pairings, including Cropwell Bishop Stilton and kimchi, Cornish Yarg with pea and mint pesto or St Ella Goat's Cheese with rose Turkish Delight. 

An off-belt menu will centre on grilled cheese sandwiches, including Keen's Clothbound cheddar with Ogleshield and onion, Cropwell Bishop Stilton with bacon and pear chutney or La Latteria mozzarella and hot honey. 

Scoops of gelato will be offered for dessert, rotating often and made using fresh local British cheeses, including the Rosary goats cheese, honey and rosemary served with a shot of Jurancon, affogato-style. 

The drinks menu is led by natural wines, available by the glass, carafe or bottle, alongside a selection of ports, craft beers and ciders. 

On Wednesdays, the restaurant will continue to offer 'Bottomless Plates', where guests can enjoy unlimited plates of cheese and charcuterie for £29.50 per person. 

"We opened Pick & Cheese in Covent Garden because we wanted to make British cheese more fun, accessible and exciting and the response to it has been incredible," says Carver. "Six years on, I'm excited to introduce the concept to Camden and continue championing the amazing work of British cheesemakers across the country. Pull up a seat and grab a plate (or two ... or three!)."
