Hotel Gotham Newcastle welcomes new executive head chef

Newcastle’s newest five-star venue, Hotel Gotham, has recruited one of the North East’s most celebrated kitchen professionals as its executive head chef ahead of its October opening.

Set within the transformed 1920s fire station on Pilgrim Street, SIREN at Hotel Gotham Newcastle will be headed up by David Kennedy.

Kennedy brings over 40 years of experience to the role, from his early days in London’s fine dining scene to running some of the most celebrated establishments in the North East – including the Brasserie Black Door and the original David Kennedy at Vallum Farm.

Part of the Gotham Hotel Collection, Hotel Gotham Newcastle will open in two phases. The first will see the launch of the former fire station with 57 bedrooms, the exclusive Club Brass and the SIREN and FIRE restaurant and bar.

The SIREN experience

At SIREN, Kennedy will create a relaxed but sophisticated dining experience where visitors can expect menus that will shift with the seasons, showcasing the best of North Shields' seafood and the pastures of Northumberland.

“My vision is to craft an experience where flavour meets emotion and every dish reflects the rich landscape, heritage and spirit of the North East," says the chef.

"SIREN will celebrate our region’s incredible producers while offering something fresh, elegant and joyfully unexpected. I’m also extremely passionate about reducing waste in food production by working with suppliers to ensure that we use up produce that would otherwise end up as waste, showcasing the best of what’s available. I’ll be working closely with rising local chefs to create a kitchen that inspires behind the scenes as much as it does when the food hits the plate. Hotel Gotham Newcastle gives us a fantastic opportunity to reset the benchmark and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
