Filippo Alessandri appointed executive chef at The Ninth
Filippo Alessandri has been promoted to executive chef at Jun Tanaka's Michelin-starred restaurant in Fitzrovia, advancing from the head chef position.
In his new role at The Ninth, Alessandri will lead the creative direction of the restaurant. He has become a shareholder and business partner to chef-patron Tanaka, who remains actively involved in the restaurant. Jim Barry also continues as a founding business partner.
A career milestone
Before joining The Ninth in 2017, Alessandri worked at celebrated London restaurants, including The Dining Room at The Goring and Cora Pearl.
"Filippo is one of the most talented chefs that I've had the privilege to work with," says Tanaka. "But what sets him apart is not just his cooking, it's the way he leads. His calm, empathetic style lifts everyone around him and makes them want to be better, myself included. He lives and breathes the values and culture we've built at The Ninth over the past 10 years. I can't think of anyone better to lead our team in shaping the future of The Ninth.
Alessandri adds: "I've been fortunate to work for Jun and have him as a mentor for the past seven years. Every step along the way has shaped me, challenged me and pushed me to grow – I started out as a CDP, full of passion and determination, and now I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to be Jun's business partner. For me, that feels like the closing circle, and I'm deeply grateful for the trust that Jun and Jim are putting in me."
