Third Plaza Khao Gaeng coming to Covent Garden
Luke Farrell’s Chaiyo Restaurants will open its third Plaza Khao Gaeng in Covent Garden on 5 May 2026.
At its new home on Bedford Street, Plaza Khao Gaeng turns to Thailand’s ‘deepest south’, the borderlands of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and beyond.
The menu features coconut charcoal-grilled meats, seafood and curries, alongside herbs, salads and fritters of wild vegetables. A selection of dishes and drinks will also be served in the new Arcade food hall next door.
"Southern Thai cuisine in London has come a long way since we opened the city’s first, Plaza Khao Gaeng on Tottenham Court Road," says Farrell. "Each iteration of Plaza has brought something new, and at Covent Garden this is the grill.
"Take Gai Gorlae, a curried chicken skewer that demands constant heat, attention and glazing, before a final flourish over coconut husks that caramelise and seal the sticks with fragrant char. Like the rural roadside spots of Southern Thailand, guests at Covent Garden may begin with a couple of sticks before moving into our deepest southern menu yet.
"We began this journey four years ago with gleeful trepidation, and it has been a joy to see it embraced so fully while sharing the depth and variety of this regional cuisine."
The design echoes Plaza Khao Gaeng’s journey south, marrying a roadside ‘truckstop Thai’ canteen of bamboo and wood with a southern-style wet market: white-tiled stalls beneath Thai script, whirring fans, kaleidoscopic curries displayed under glass counters, and a wood-charcoal grill.
