Andrew Wong to move into pub industry

Andrew Wong of the two-Michelin-starred A.Wong is teaming up with Amar Radia, co-founder of Dishoom, to launch a pub in Shoreditch.

Kong will be the anchor tenant at British Land's Norton Folgate development in east London.

Dubbed as a 'Chinese public house', the pub will serve dumplings at dawn, noodles at lunch and grills with pints at dusk. 

“Kong is a Chinese kitchen reflecting our personality, shaped by London, the East End, China, and A.Wong," says Wong. "Untraditional, instinctive, fearless, all-day cooking.”

The pub on the site in Norton Folgate first opened its doors in 1792, the same time the first Chinese settlers arrived in east London. It traded as the Pewter Platter, The Poet, and the Water Poet. 

The site occupies just under 6,000 sq ft with an 800 sq ft courtyard.

“The grand East London pub and the Chinese kitchen have been part of London for over two hundred years," adds Radia. "Kong honours that history while writing the next chapter - a Chinese Public House with a warm, wide welcome."
