Dorian team to open new Japanese restaurant

The team behind Michelin-starred Dorian in London's Notting Hill will open NAKIMUSHI in September, a new Japanese restaurant set within a townhouse in Notting Hill Gate.

The dual-format Japanese townhouse is born from a collaboration of two residencies: Urchin, created by chef Yuji Shimokawa Kelly, and Robin’s Ramen by chef Robin Kosuge.

The new opening marks the next chapter for the two chefs, who have joined forces under one permanent roof to create NAKIMUSHI. The space is owned by Dorian founder Chris D'Sylva.

Spanning three floors, the space will house two concepts. The ground floor will be a fast-paced ramen bar with an open kitchen and shared seating, serving the Tokyo-style bowls, alongside a small selection of cold starters and snacks such as hogget skewers with yuzu kosho labneh and oregano, and pork and lobster gyoza with cauliflower and chilli oil; and Kosuge's signatures, lobster ramen and the classic charshu pork belly ramen with Basque chicken broth and ajitama. 

The upper floor restaurant and bar will take a broader look at Japanese cooking, while ramen will remain a central menu item. Dishes will include grilled lobster chazuke, native blue Welsh lobsters grilled over coals, and finished with lobster and tomato oil; and aged Japanese Black Holstein beef from North Yorkshire reared on fermented grains, grass and corn, cooked over a bespoke robata and served with artichoke sauce, beef jus, kimizu and angel hair fries.

"With NAKIMUSHI, we wanted to create a space where people can enjoy our approach to Japanese cooking in two different ways under one roof," says Shimokawa Kelly.

Home in Notting Hill 

The opening further cements the team's tightly connected presence in Notting Hill. From Michelin-starred dining at Dorian and the much lauded EEL Sushi on Talbot Road, to the creative platform of luxury grocer Supermarket of Dreams in Holland Park, and the Notting Hill Fish + Meat Shop. 

“It’s also an opportunity for our team to explore their own heritage, taking what we do further while continuing to work with the producers we trust,” adds Kosuge.

The restaurant is due to open in September at 17 Mall Chambers, Kensington Mall, London, W8 4DY.
