Allegra at Manhattan Loft Gardens launches chef collabs

Allegra at Manhattan Loft Gardens will launch a pop-up restaurant concept next month, in London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, as the venue welcomes a series of chef collaborations.

Happy Burger at Allegra will open on the rooftop terrace on Thursday 15 April, with a menu from chef Patrick Powell, and will run for four weeks.

Throughout the month, Happy Burger at Allegra will welcome also London restaurant operators who, without outdoor seating, would otherwise remain closed until mid-May under government Covid restrictions.

Each chef will prepare a five-course menu on the seventh-floor terrace’s barbecue pit, including Ben Marks and Matt Emmerson of Perilla in Newington Green on Sunday 18 April, followed by Sertac and Ferhat Dirik of Dalston’s Mangal 2 on Sunday 25 April.

“Once it was announced restaurants with outdoor areas could reopen in April, it seemed like a great opportunity to do something a bit different until we’re back operating fully again," comments Powell.

"Allegra means ‘cheerful’ in Italian, so while we wanted the pop-up to refer back to the restaurant, we also thought the name was rather apt having been closed for such a large part of the past year.”

Powell's dishes will include The Happy Burger: an Oklahoma-style onion burger with American cheese (£9, pictured); fried chicken with mustard fruit, aioli and pickles (£10); half a dozen oysters with pickled seaweed mignonette (£18); and a rhubarb and custard doughnut (£6).

Sides will include fried potatoes with beef chilli, sour cream and cheese (£9); and a wedge salad with buttermilk dressing, radish and cucumber (£5).

Other operators popping-up during Happy Burger at Allegra's collaborative series include chef Sebastian Myers (2 May), previously of P Franco, serving up a preview of dishes from his new restaurant and wine bar, Planque, which launches in Haggerston this summer.

AngloThai’s John and Diz Chantarasak also join the line-up on 9 May, marrying Thai flavours with British ingredients.
