Number Eight opens in Sevenoaks

Number Eight, a restaurant and bar concept created by chef Stuart Gillies, opened in the historic town of Sevenoaks in Kent on Wednesday (2 March).

Co-owned with his wife Cecilia, the family-run venue resides in a 16th century corner site with a courtyard terrace. The venue also includes a 16-cover private room, called The Gallery, that serves as both an intimate dining and bespoke artwork showcase space.

Gillies has devised a menu that reflects his travels and culinary journey as a chef. Dishes include whipped cod's roe with hazelnuts, green beans and homemade focaccia; truffled artichokes with crème fraîche dressing and mache salad; buttermilk chicken, BBQ sauce and blue cheese shavings; confit leg of Goosnargh duck, roasted ceps, Cavolo Nero and garlic fried potatoes; Rye Bay monkfish curry; roasted loin of Chart Farm venison with swede mash, sour cherry and chocolate sauce; and fettucine of Dorset crab, chilli, spring onions and garlic.

The drinks offering at Number Eight includes a carefully considered wine list with a nod to English sparkling Blanc de Blanc and local vineyards. Cocktails are also provided, including the No.8 Sour, Tommy's Margarita and Conker Espresso Martini.

Chef Gillies comments: "Cecilia and I are so excited to bring Number Eight to Sevenoaks... [It's] such a vibrant town full of incredible independent operators, we can't wait to be part of it all, sharing our passion for good honest food and great wine with locals and visitors alike."
