BTG opens three new Banana Tree sites

The Big Table Group (BTG) has launched three new sites for its Pan-Asian restaurant brand Banana Tree, bringing the concept to Greenwich, Bath and Henley, while introducing its first-ever breakfast menu in the process.

The three new launches take the brand's openings this year to nine, doubling its estate in the 12 months. Founded 30 years ago in Maida Vale, West London, Banana Tree now has 18 restaurants across London and the south-east, and has recently expanded to the south-west and West Midlands.

The Greenwich restaurant on Stockwell Street opened on 6 November after an extensive refurbishment. It now offers 166 indoor covers and a further 84 outdoors, while the 152-cover site on Milson Street in Bath launched on Monday 13 November. The third new site, located on Hart Street in the centre of Henley-on-Thames, opened on Saturday 2 December.

The brand's managing director Anne Chow comments: "We are delighted to have successfully opened three brand-new restaurants in the space of a few weeks. This has been a busy year of new openings and we've been really happy to see how well our new restaurants have performed – our teams have done a brilliant job to make sure every site has been a success from day one."

On top of serving soups, salads, noodles, stir-fries and curries from across south-east Asia and Japan, the Greenwich restaurant is the first Banana Tree venue to trial a breakfast offering. Open from 8 am daily, the site serves both traditional and Pan-Asian versions of a full English breakfast, as well as traditional Southeast Asian favourites like Malaysian dippy eggs and banana roti canai wraps. The trial will roll out to other locations in the next few months, including Covent Garden, the O2 Arena, Windsor and Birmingham.

Banana Tree was acquired by BTG in September last year as part of the company's strategy to acquire high-quality and complementary hospitality brands. Then, in September 2023, the group further boosted its portfolio with the acquisition of The Restaurant Group's leisure division, which includes such brands as Frankie & Benny's, Chiquito and Firejacks, taking its estate to over 230 restaurants nationwide.
