Stonehouse Pizza & Carvery commits to tackling food waste

Stonehouse Pizza & Carvery has partnered with the Too Good To Go food app in a bid to to reduce food waste across the estate.

All 92 venues have signed up to the scheme, meaning consumers across the UK can rescue surplus roast dinners that would have otherwise gone in the bin.

The app allows users to buy leftover food and drink from restaurants, grocery stores, pubs, cafés and producers to help tackle waste issues across food-based industries. According to the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, one third of the food produced each year across the UK goes to waste – 18% of which is created by the hospitality and foodservice industries, with one in six meals in hospitality going to waste.

Stonehouse is offering 'Magic Bags' via the app, containing a variety of excess food from the carvery menu which consumers can takeaway at an alotted time. The 'Veg Magic Bag' costs £2.29, while the 'Roast Magic Bag', which contains meat, is available for £3.20.

Since the partnership launched two weeks ago, consumers have already collected almost 9,000 Magic Bags, saving over 22,000kg of CO2e emissions – the same as that emitted by 3.9m smartphone charges.

David Hoyland, operations director for Stonehouse Pizza & Carvery, comments: "We're delighted to be helping to reduce food waste at the end of the day by having Magic Bags available. We have always been considered as great value for money and now guests can help us to have a positive impact on the environment too."
