Flesh & Buns is coming to Kensington

Signature Japanese feasting brand Flesh & Buns is coming to High Street Kensington in January.

The new venue will be the biggest yet, taking over a corner site on Phillimore Gardens. The launch will coincide with a redesign of the brand's Covent Garden and Fitzrovia restaurants.

Flesh & Buns offers unique Japanese izakaya and Nikkei-inspired feasting dishes. The menu will feature a range of small plates, sashimi, ceviche, maki, poké don and the restaurant's signature steamed bao buns.

Small plate highlights include chicken yakitori cooked over hot coals on a robata grill; smoked pork rib doused in tallow chilli honey glaze; and fried squid with Japanese pepper, red chilli and lime.

Traditional sashimi dishes use the freshest sushi-grade fish and maki rolls, like the spicy tuna with rocoto chilli and pickled daikon, or the prawn tampura with yuzu Amarillo chilli mayo. Ceviche and tiradito such as the ceviche mixto – tuna, salmon, seabass and sweet potato – and the torched salmon tiradito are inspired by Nikkei cuisine, the fusion of Japanese and Peruvian culture and cooking that has formed through Peru's large Japanese population.

The steamed boa buns are at the core of the Flesh & Buns brand, even inspiring its name. Served with smoked meat, fish and vegetables, customers can choose from fillings such as crispy duck leg with plum sauce and beetroot pickle; Japanese fried chicken with rocoto chilli and BBQ mayo; chilli miso brisket; salmon teriyaki with cucumber pickle; and portobello mushrooms with wasabi mayo.

Guests can finish off their feast with a choice of dessert, including salted caramel chocolate fondant with matcha ice cream; Nutella tai yaki with cherry soft serve; and kinako donuts with black sugar custard.
