MiMi Mei Fair to launch Chinese feasting menu

London-based Chinese restaurant MiMi Mei Fair will is preparing to celebrate its first Chinese New Year, marking the annual 15-day holiday with a feasting menu and bespoke wishing tree installation.

The project has been led by founder and restauranteur Samyukta Nair, in collaboration with luxury florist, Lucy Vail. The wishing tree will include a canopy of deep fuschia peonies and chrysanthemums which guests will dine beneath. The interior will also be adorned with garlands of kumquats, which symbolise good fortune, wealth and prosperity.

From 24 January to 15 February, guests will also be able to enjoy a traditional Chinese New Year feasting menu, kicking off with a 'Basket of Wealth', featuring two types of dim sum filled with chicken and chive and sea bass and wasabi tobiko, followed by seared oysters with chilli mayo and lemon, and the restaurant's signature steamed XO okra with shallot and enoki mushroom crumble.

The feast's main event takes the form of an entire wok-baked lobster in a rich Umami broth made with chicken, pork, cured ham and dried fish, served with baby pak choi. Other mains include hakka noodles with beansprouts, shiitake and garlic chives; a trio of braised truffled shimeji, shiitake and eryngii mushrooms, soy and ginger silver cod with steamed egg white and crispy leeks; and 'fortune' crispy Norfolk pork with pineapple and pomelo.

"Since we first opened [our] doors in September, we have welcomed so many people into the restaurant and are incredibly excited to come together to celebrate Chinee New Year with old friends and new," says  Nair.

"Our menu will incorporate Chinese traditions and give diners and authentic taste of auspicious dishes. I'm also very excited to share our bespoke Chinese wishing tree, allowing guests to make their wishes of happiness and prosperity for the year ahead here at MiMi Mei Fair."
