Chef Carlo Scotto opens Mayfair restaurant

Neapolitan chef Carlo Scotto has opened a new restaurant, Amethyst, on Sackville Street in London's Mayfair.

Centred around a real amethyst chef's table and a changing tasting menu, chef scotto brings his culinary style – which won rave reviews at Xier pre-pandemic – to Mayfair's growing restaurant landscape.

On top of the amethyst and quartz chef's table, the ground floor has seating for 21 diners, all with full view of the pass. Previously described as 'an alchemist of cooking', Scotto's dishes draw inspiration from his travels through Europe, Asia, Scandinavia and Japan.

The venue offers a three- and five-course lunch, as well as a six-course tasting menu. The 12-course experience, however, is the star of the show. While the menu changes regularly, guests can expect the likes of croquette with liquorice, tarragon and parmesan; scallops with caviar, galangal and matsutake; foie gras with rose petal salmon, yuzu and Piedmont hazelnuts; burnt hay black cod; and ras el hanout beef with medjool dates and nasturium.

The wine cellar resides on the lower ground floor, showcasing an extensive range of fine and rare vintages. For the tasting menu, wines are expertly matched by sommelier Filippo Carnevale.

For a special occasion experience, the chef’s table can be booked exclusively for private dinners for up to 21 guests, tailored to the event, while the wine cellar can also be booked for dinners of up to 16 or drinks and canapé parties of 30.

Amethyst is open Tuesday to Saturday, offering six and 12-course tasting menus at £90 and £150 respectively with a three (£45) and five-course (£55) lunch menu available on both floors. Wine pairings are available at an additional £135 for the classic and £195 for the prestige based on the 12-course menu.
