Big Mamma Group to open Barbarella in Canary Wharf

Big Mamma Group will launch a new restaurant in London's Canary Wharf in June.

Inspired by the golden age of Roman cinema in the 70s, Barbarella will be a nod to a retro, wild and jungle-themed city pad among the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf.

Set in the YY building, Barbarella will reside in a waterside condo decked out in vintage Ferragamo silks with added glitzy details. The condo will feature a huge mirrored glass bar and a reflective 70s chromed lounge upstairs, with an open kitchen taking centre stage. It will also have a waterside terrace where guests can soak up the sunshine.

Dining at Barbarella

The kitchen will be led by Roma-born Marco Rastelli, who will serve up a menu inspired by his home town, including daily-changing, extra-thin, extra-wide Ruota di Carretto pizzas; caramelised Italian tomato tatin with Parmigiano cream and indulgent home-made fresh pasta like the new one-metre-long spaghettone.

Mains will feature the likes of Cornish lemon sole to share, filleted table-side, and grilled Phillip Warren steaks – from delicate fillet to a vast 1.2kg T-bone. The restaurant will also house a dedicated gelati section, with flavours including white chocolate, pistachio or chocolate, drizzled in a sauce of choice.

Barbarella will offer Big Mamma’s biggest-ever cocktail menu – think playful twists on classics like a new pistachio espresso martini – as well as the group’s most extensive wine list yet, including an exclusive selection of Italian magnums and vintages.
