Gastrono-me to open second site in Cambridge

Gastrono-me Restaurants has announced plans to launch a second UK site in March.

The group currently operates a site in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, with the second site due to open on the historic Bridge Street in Cambridge, taking over a former Bella Italia branch.

The new 2,500sq ft, 130-cover restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, also offering local-roastery coffees, cocktails, mocktails, wine and beers.

Menu highlights include the lox deluxe bagel tower layered with cured salmon, herbed cream cheese, potato rösti, and Gastrono-me's signature soufflé egg wedge; and organic dark chocolate porridge with 75% fair trade chocolate, topped with chia seeds, berries and nuts.

Favourites from the Bury St Edmunds restaurant will also feature, such as the Slumdog Grillionaire, made with spiced cheesy rarebit and topped with a fried egg; vegan tempura beer-battered avacado tacos with fresh corn salsa, pink pickled onions and chipotle crema; Chinese bao buns with Korean braised brisket or marinated shiitake; and pain perdu topped with maple syrup and clotted cream.

Bottomless brunch will also be offered daily from 10am–2pm.

Gastrono-me co-founder Gemma Simmonite comments: "We found our calling in Gastrono-me back in 2011 and are now realising our dream of expanding our business into other parts of the UK. We love the historic market town feel we have in Bury St Edmunds, and Cambridge holds that same charm but on a city level. It's the perfect setting for the next stage of our adventure and we're so excited to become part of the city's buzzing restaurant culture."

The brand is looking to locations such as Bath, Brighton, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Oxford and Reading for future expansion.
