PizzaExpress launches new vegan dessert

PizzaExpress has added a vegan watermelon sorbet to its dessert offering.

Inspired by Harry Styles' hit tune 'Watermelon Sugar', which won Song of the Year at the 2021 Brit Awards, the chain launched the dessert at its exclusively-vegan Aldwych branch to mark this year's event (8 February). The dish is due to be rolled out across 360 pizzerias in March.

PizzaExpress has a rich musical heritage, with legends including Van Morrison, Sting, Amy Winehouse and Ed Sheeran all performing at the PizzaExpress Jazz Club on Dean Street in London – a Soho icon since it opened its doors in 1969.

The dessert is the latest addition to the brand's vegan offerings, following the arrival of the vegan garlic butter last month

The current menu features the brand's most extensive range of plant-based dishes, including the American Jack, with smoky jackfruit 'pepperoni' and tomato with its signature vegan mozzarella alternative; and the Vegan Ad Astra, topped with Quorn, sweet red peppers, Cajun spice, red onion, tomato, garlic oil and a vegan mozzarella alternative.

Jane Treasure, food and beverage director at PizzaExpress, comments: "We are constantly innovating and updating our dishes and are always looking to add more vegan-friendly options to our menus, so we're delighted to be launching our new music-inspired watermelon sorbet... We have something for everyone at our pizzareias, and whether you're vegan, flexi or just plan curious, we're sure this will hit the spot."
